Lunch
Every day
Wed.-Sat.
12:45 - 13:45
Lunch is served each day at the
restaurant Fährhaus
am Stausee, which is located a few hundred meters from the university
campus (address: An der Fähre 3,
map).
Welcome Reception
Wednesday
Sept. 14
19:00 - 20:00
For the welcome reception we have been invited
by the City of Koblenz to the Schöffenstübchen,
which is in the building of the Mittelrheinmuseum (Middle-Rhine Museum)
at Florinsmarkt. This is an opportunity to meet and
socialise on the first evening of the conference (for TABLEAUX) resp.
the evening before the conference starts (for FTP). The city will
provide local wines and some small snacks. After the reception, there
is ample opportunity to have dinner in one of the many restaurants
close by. Possibly there will be a guided city tour before the
reception starting at 18:00 (this is not fixed yet).
Excursion: Fortress
Ehrenbreitstein
Thursday
Sept. 15
17:45 - 19:15
From
the conference site, we go by bus up to Fortress
Ehrenbreitstein, which
overlooks the city center and the confluence of Rhine and Moselle. We
spend about one hour at the fortress, and there will be a guided tour.
Afterwards buses take us to the conference dinner.
Conference Dinner
Thursday
Sept. 15
19:15 -
The confernce dinner takes place in the Kulturfabrik
(Mayer-Alberti-Str. 11). This building - its name translates to Culture
Factory - used to be the house Europe's largest factory for letter
envelopes. Most of the factory was destroyed in WW II, but the building
where we have our dinner remained. It stood empty till the 1980s when
it was turned into an independent arts center (their webpage is in German only).
Today it houses a small theater, and we'll dine where usually the
audience sits.
The stage will not remain empty either. Before and after the meal we
will have live music.
Business Meeting
Friday
Sept. 16
17:45 - 18:45
The Tableaux / FTP Business Meeting is not
really a social event, but since it is not part of the technical
programme either, it is listed here.
NEW - Excursion:
St. Goar
(wine festival and
Rhine in Flames)
Saturday
Sept. 17
16:15 - late
This was not in the original plan for the
conference, but Rhine in Flames is something that should not be missed.
So we have added this to the schedule.
Right after the last talk, we go by bus to St. Goar, which
is a picturesque town on the Rhine about 40km south of Koblenz, just
opposite the world-famous Loreley rock. On this weekend St. Goar
celebrates its annual wine festival. The absolute highlight of this
festival is the light and fireworks spectacle Rhine in Flames, for which 40.000
visitors are expected (most of them on 70 cruise boats on the river).
When we arrive in St.-Goar you will have time to visit the wine
festival. Afterwards, we will have dinner at a restaurant overlooking
the Rhine just opposite the Loreley rock. After dinner we watch Rhine in Flames from the
restaurant's terrace. More information can be found on this website (note,
however, that this is a commercial site selling tickets for the cruise
boats on the river).
Since this was not in the
original schedule, TABLEAUX does not have the funds to fully cover this
excursion. Transportation is provided but participants have
to pay for the dinner themselves (30 Euro plus drinks). But be assured: The
experience is worth it!
